It is imperative to choose an auspicious date and time 吉日 良辰 to move into your new home. The traditional method is to follow the Chinese almanac (黄历) dates that are compatible with occupants’ bazi and Home Destiny.

It is listed as 入伙 for brand new house and resale 移徙. Other formulas to choose an auspicious date if you are not in a hurry are 七政四余 太阳到山到向 三元紫白 奇门遁甲 六壬 三元  太乙神数 etc

No such thing as ghost month cannot shift house

It is appalling to avoid certain beliefts such as Qingming Festival (清明), lunar 7th month (ghost month) or Friday the 13th cannot shift house etc etc. Look at it this way, every month there are auspicious and unfavourable dates based on bazi calculations. An auspicious date and time maybe good for Mr. Lee but not Mr. Tan

For example using just one of the formula 太阳到山法.

During August month i.e. Lunar 7th month so call ghost month 农历七月 for a Home Destiny that sits South 丙山 facing 壬向 North is very lucky 吉利 to move house because 太阳 立秋 (usually 07-09 Aug) 到山 does dispel negative energies 能化解 很多灾煞.

Chinese Custom House moving ritual

The procedure below is a common Chinese “tradition or custom” on what to do, on the day of move in. You can choose to follow all or part of. 

1st, family member must stay overnight for the first time. It does not matter if some of your family members are overseas or schooling and can’t make it for the day & time.

2nd, the significance to use an  “auspicious starting date & time” is “symbolic” to good fortune 好意头, 兆头, 彩头.

In the past, fire crackers and charcoal stove were used to commemorate the shift in day. Here is the simplified version to give you peace of mind.

*Please note that all the “heavy lifting” such as bed, furniture, refrigerator, sofa set, TV console can be install or transported prior to shift in.

For those who wanted install “安床 new bed” (newly wed) you can follow the delivery timing prior to shifting in but place the bed slanted in the master room. Then on the given date and time by your feng shui master place it properly against the wall.

*For those with religion, you can set up the altar stand (but not lighted up) cover your deity with a red cloth prior to day of move in. On the auspicious shift in day and time you can unveil and do your religious beliefs such as burning of joss stick, offerings, etc.

Third anytime prior to shift in day, consider sprinkle $168 consisting of $1 coin all over the entire house. The amount is up to you, you can use $1688 if that is not too heavy to carry OR your own perceived lucky number.

Procedures on Shift in day  搬家

1. Wear something new as if it is the 1st lunar day of Chinese New Year.
2. Paste one pair of red 对联 (dui lian) Chinese scrolls on each side of the door. You can remove this after staying in your new house for 7 days. This is believed to ward off evil spirits 僻邪驱鬼.
3. The most senior member of house should lead and enter the house first, this is a form of respect.
4. Family members to carry items symbolic to good fortune when entering new house, examples:

• daddy carry money in a red packet or anything that is symbolic to wealth.
• mummy bring small quantities of 米 油 盐 酱 醋 茶 rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea leave omit the  柴 charcoal to signify abundance.
• kids who are schooling can carry 葱蒜 spring onion & garlic or 4 calligraphy brushes.
• singles who wish to get married can carry a red string.

5. After you entered, pick up the 168 pieces of 1 dollar coin (that you sprinkle prior to shift in) put inside a red packet or box and place it under your mattress. This signifies “财源广进” ushering wealth into your house.

6. Activate all electricity, lighting and appliances. It is important to turn on your gas stove 开炉 (kai lu) to boil water and cook a simple meal. You and your family members have to consume the water and food for the 1st time in your new home.

This must fall within auspicious timing given by your feng shui master. The “boiling of water” is symbolic to “shift in” and cooking a meal technically making it complete. It signifies your home is flourishing 风生水起.

Switching on all home lightings is symbolic to bringing the “charcoal stove” into the house because light is “fire” element.  Chinese Custom believed that “fire” can dispel negative energies.

7. Before shift in day, likely your new bed/mattress would have been delivered to your home already. Leave the mattress in a vertical position (whether length or breadth lean against the floor doesn’t matter). Then on the auspicious day & hour you can put the mattress properly 安床. This is the simplest bed installation method.

*for resale house, one can consider burning incense at the center of your entire house.

1.Keep your house clean and tidy. Start small and form a daily habit. (a) Categorise things or belongings that are essential,  currently using and never used before (b) Take action to discard or donate to charity things that you don’t need e.g. toys that your kids have outgrown (c) Get rid of things that you are obsessed and sentimental with. This concept  断 舍 离 is from a Japanese author name 山下英子. According to this author whenever you buy a new item to replace the old one, do dispose the old thing.

古人曰: 久入兰室不闻其香，久住脏屋不觉其乱, “财，不入污门”
古人云: 高堂素壁, 无舒卷之劳; 明窗净几, 有坐卧之安”

in short a dirty living space, dulls your mind, weaken your health…

2. Singapore is a metropolitan city without natural landforms like mountains, rivers etc which makes windows and doors (including bed room doors) playing a vital role in attracting positive “qi air or energy”. If your home physical structure allows, do open windows or doors that are South, NorthEast, West and Northwest directions. Avoid North, East, SouthEast and Southwest. This is based on San Yuan 三元纳气法 which is simple and effective.

3. Do Not indulge in buying Yearly feng shui items without understanding your Home feng shui destiny. And do not accumulate yearly feng shui items without removing it.

4. In today’s context is not about insufficient info but to many contradicting views. These are signs of Period 9 (2024 to 2044). When in doubt about different feng shui principles best not to try on your own without consulting your regular feng shui master.

5. Whenever you are persuade into buying expensive feng shui items always ask yourself does it make “sense” to you? For instance a client of mine was misled into buying tens of  thousand dollars amulet to cure her mum’s cancer.  Another was persuaded to buy expensive wealth-generating talisman believing to make him rich? Learn to accept feng shui is not a miracle performance but enhancement.

6. Thanks to the exaggerated feng shui and bazi propaganda, some new clients i met assumed we can “transform” their life from bad luck to good? How is this possible without hard work, education, change of habits, mental atttude and many others.

7. Try mediation, positive affirmations, read books that induce positive mindset but not wishful thinking without plans and actions.

黄帝宅经: “人因宅而立, 宅因人得存. 人宅相扶, 感通天地”

2024 Wood Dragon Year is a challenging year based on feng shui perspective.

Are we heading for a recession in Year 2024?

Most of the websites that you may have visited only use 1 or 2 feng shui models to forecast the forthcoming year. Every year i integrated popular feng shui formulas such as Xuan Kong flying star 玄空飞星, Qi Men Dun Jia 奇门遁甲, San He 三合,  “zhen lu ma gui fei diao 太岁飞吊 真禄马贵” etc to give a more holistic picture of 2024 annual feng shui and it does not look promising.

Thus top prority for 2024 is to mitigate the negative feng shui sectors. They are West-Misfortune 5, SE-Sickness 2 + 辰太岁, South & related segments 3 Killings 三煞 巳丙午丁未, NW 戌岁破.

The  3 positive sectors of my pick are East 1, NorthEast 6 and North 8.

SW (未坤申) sector based on Xuan Kong flying star (玄空飞星) no doubt is the best energy 9 当令旺气 but qi men death door,  天芮星 sickness and 未 三煞 is unsafe to enhance it!

To complicate matters, 2024 is the commencement of a New Era known as the 9th Luck Cycle or Period 9 下元九运 using Xuan Kong calculations.

Forthcoming trends of feng shui 9th Luck cycle already happening today!

Qi Men 奇门 六仪 九星 八神 八门 Fu Yin 伏吟 stagnant 一动 不如一静

In 2024 the 9 stars, 8 doors, 8 deities, 6 yi are in stagnant position i.e. revert to original natal chart position.  It is a negative sign that nothing is going to change, things are not happening. Not a good indication when there is no progress.

Interesting Year 2024 Natal Chart

天上三奇 甲戊庚 Year, Day and Time stem exhibit heavenly 3 wonders. It forms productive cycle Jia wood grows Bing Fire, fire grows Wu Earth and earth grows Geng Metal. There is no water element in the structure. There are chances of “water-related” accidents or disasters. The stems may look good on the surface? but a deeper look at  the roots are in a clashing position.

The entire chart is 四柱纯阳 yang. Alpha dominant personality type. The roots of the Bazi structure shows underlying conflicts & clashes 寅申冲 辰戌冲 庚克甲 丙克庚  which is worrying. 七杀 competitiveness, damage and 偏印 unorthodox tactics, self-indulgence.

The saving grace is 食神制杀 on the time column.

Day Master 戊戌 is 魁kui 罡gang 日. From 60 甲子 there are 4 such days i.e. 庚戍、庚辰、壬辰、戊戍. Interpret 魁罡 day alone represents aggressiveness, decisiveness, strong armed leadership, intelligence etc

Globally conflicts, fire-related disaster, earthquakes, disharmony, wars, recession, emotional illnesses are strong possibilities.

I Ching draws the analogy on survival skills of living things with hard shell. These are exoskeleton species such as snail, crab, tortoise, crustaceans, clam, beetle. 

Due to the “fire” element influences, issues such as global warming, ice melting, forest fires, volcano eruption and even war possibilities.

Singapore in period 9 feng shui 玄空 — 零 正 催 照 

South – prosperous Qi 旺气 and North – water

For the next 20 years south location/direction is 正神方- 旺气 most auspicious “qi”! 

As a rule of thumb, the house SHOULD NOT have South facing/direction waters such as sea, rivers, reservoir, lake, drainage etc. South windows or door or balcony is to attract “纳当令旺气“ qi (air energies) not water.

On the flip side, the opposite North direction should attract “water” 零神纳水 for wealth energies. Here we are not talking about putting a fish tank in the North sector of your home but an actual “sea”. Because the “pull” of energy from a fish tank is a feeble attempt to draw pressure.

The air pressure from land and sea breeze is to draw Qi from South direction and retain it in the North location (sea) to have any significant impact!

Another favourable water direction (position) is Southeast 巽卦4催官水 (生成之數), particularly suitable for leaders, civil servants, CEOs where authority & power  is necessary. This is derived from luo shu . Lastly 照神水 NorthWest 合十五 use under certain conditions. 

In my humble opinion, countries facing North direction waters will do well after 2024 and countries facing South direction waters is going to be bad.

Over the last couple of years, many were confused with the forthcoming period 9 feng shui i.e. after 04 feb 2024.

Most were misinformed to “redo” their home destiny feng shui or deluded into thinking of moving house. This is unnecessary unless your home feng shui possess a bad Period 8 or 7 destiny chart! Moreover changing to Period 9 Destiny Chart maybe good for certain directions and worse off  for others. Some even requested me to find a Home Destiny that fits both Xuan Kong Luck Cycle 8 & 9 omg.

Re-Focus on Energies “9 旺气 & 1 生气”

Home Natal 宅命 Energy chart is derived from San Yuan feng shui formula 三元玄空风水. Which is just 1 of the many feng shui formulas. There are other popular principles such as “Eight Mansions 八宅法” theory which does not depend on timing, 三合, 奇门遁甲 and many others.

A House Feng Shui Destiny Energy map is analogous to a human birth chart. Our natal chart DOES NOT CHANGE. It is our focus that have to change.  

Using a Period 8 Destiny Chart as an example 子山午向 八运宅命盘 see above illustration. Sitting North facing South Period 8 Home Destiny chart, the health & wealth energy is in the South sector “double 8” which is the best energy between 2004 to 2024 feb.

After 04 feb 2024 which is call period 9 or 9th luck cycle the focus is on “energy 9 当令旺气” in your existing Destiny chart. 

Focus on Energy 9 based on your existing Destiny chart

Looking at the same Period 8 Destiny Chart example, one will discover that Health 9 energy is in North sector and Wealth 9 is in Northeast. Here i will not discuss the negativities of 97 and 79 combo which have to be rectify before activation.

In a nutshell you don’t have to shift house every 20 years if your house possess good feng shui. Having say that, there are some Luck cycle 8 Home Destiny charts becomes bad in period 9 i.e. 反吟.

One can consider changing to a period 9 Destiny chart if your existing Destiny 8 chart is bad.  

Period 9 destiny NO positive health & wealth charts 到山到向

As for your existing Home Destiny charts whether period 7 or 8, do ensure that the Health or Wealth star “9” is NOT trap in the center of your house. Xuan kong 三元玄空 term it as “imprisonment 旺星入囚”.  

Lastly don’t get excited over Period 9 destiny charts. All Period 9 charts only possess either positive Health OR positive Wealth natal charts. There isn’t any 旺山旺向 i.e. Positive Health & Wealth charts.

9th Luck cycle only comes with “supplementary” help i.e. 运星与山星合十 or 水星合十, 城门诀, 七星打劫. However the supporting help other than 合十 is difficult to carry out because of structural constraints.

Master Chan 曾 positively the only feng shui master in Singapore who adopt an objective and scientific approach in feng shui & birth reading (bazi) applications.

What is Feng Shui

“What is Feng Shui?” obviously not buying expensive lucky charms to make you home looking like a Chinese restaurant.

Authentic feng shui are calculations to harness earth’s environmental resources 形气 to our advantage. Not some make-believe rituals such rolling of pineapples on key-collection day. It is not based on chinese-custom or religious or spiritual.

Staunch non-believer of feng shui & bazi

Master Chan (曾) learned Feng Shui in 1994 the hard way because of his newly bought home, out of interest and soon developed into a professional career.

Unlike learning feng shui from the grapevine, he started off as a staunch non-believer of feng shui.

This is because early 90s Singapore, in his opinion there are no credible feng shui masters that provides logic & reasoning to support their practices. Most used scare tactics, drama, mythology, religion, spirituality and trying too hard to sell their ” blessed” fengshui items.

Authentic Feng Shui is for all religion and races

Earliest recorded phrase “feng shui 风水” came from 晋代郭璞 AD 276-324 葬经 burial book.  Over thousand of years, teachings, principles have evolved with countless masters practising it. Passed down till today obviously there are some who are the real deals (not necessary the popular ones) and some not so much. 

Today feng shui methods used were integrated with Masters’ own personal experiences & religious beliefs. Thus some of their recommendations does carry religious or spiritual overtones e.g. 开光.

If you a keen believer of feng shui, you should read traditional feng shui books from some of these authors 杨筠松（834年—900年）蒋大鸿（1616年—1714年）沈竹礽（1849年－1906年) etc and you will realised these books does not contain any godly or spiritual customs/rituals.

Educate – Learn – Research – Question – Verify – Apply

The number of metaphysics schools are countless. It is only wise to read widely & deeply authentic feng shui classics as well as today’s interpretations by some famous masters.

Diverse perspectives raise self-awareness, intellectual flexibility, and broad knowledge. It enables us to see the teachings through the eyes of others. To some may think these are run-of-the-mill, watered-down learnings. But who knows, you maybe surprise to learn just 1 new angle to a certain feng shui principle and that is a good read for Master Chan. One can’t corner all good ideas just by self-study alone. It takes many years of passionate study to make it your own. 

Contradicting feng shui principles

Popular schools like SanHe, SanYuan, XuanKong, QiMenDunJia, Bazi, ZiWeiDuoShu, BaZhai, WuXing, DaGua and many others. Interestingly they hold similar and yet conflicting views which is normal. Disbelieved that feng shui and bazi formulas is ambiguous, Master Chan remain undeterred, curious and started his half a lifetime of learning on the subject.

It is a tedious 3 step process. 1. Research – read relevant legitimate Chinese classics. 2. Question & verify it’s validity 3. Understand, adapt & apply. To say the learning process is challenging is an understatement because there are so many controversial principles.

Unlike some who learn from lineage. Master Chan (曾) challenged, experiment, verify and validate every principle. He tested from the most basic to the most profund. His attitude to learn is to leave no stone unturned. He told me those days feng shui advice for his friends, relatives and people around him were free. The condition is to feedback after the visit.

Feng Shui is REAL

He recalled one of the early cases for a relative in Indonesia. It was 1997, he relocated the main entrance and remove the signboard that faces the retail shop. Within a week his relative called to thank him that business was doing well again. Till today his relative did not dare to move a thing. Another of his friend is having trouble to tie the wedding knot. After relocating the bed, he was happily married 1 year later. Yet another case was curing his colleague sick home. The list goes on and on.

Feng shui is not a miracle solution nor an excuse to life’s problems

His innovative, result-driven and unbias approach in feng shui make him popular in Singapore and overseas. His style of feng shui were widely published in local and foreign media. In 2011, his clients encouraged him to setup this website  to educate the true value of feng shui without exaggeration. Like he always says, “feng shui is no magic, it only provides supplementary support, the rest is your own effort.

In Singapore many claim they are grandmasters of feng shui. In his opinion legitimate grandmasters 风水大师 of feng shui are those who have written formulas, teachings and principles passed down and used by many till today.

To him these are the real deal 杨筠松(救贫), 吴景鸾, 曾文辿, 廖金精, 赖布衣, 蒋大鸿, 章仲山, 華湛恩, 孔昭苏, 沈竹礽, bazi 韦千里, 沈孝瞻, 徐乐吾 and many many more 

There are no boundaries to learning and no one should claim that they are the best in the field. Each feng shui school has it’s own merits and demerits. The best way to learn is to read widely, wisely, digest, process, evaluate, assimilate, experiment and make it your own.

Misleading feng shui teachings

Across so many years of history, who can guarantee that the teachings of feng shui are complete and not purposely distorted. 

You may be surprise to know that during Qing dynasty, emperors purposely commissioned scholars to publish misleading information so that the Manchu race were unable to learn these wise teachings. Unfortunately, the ploy backfired and filtered back to China. It resurfaced today as authentic feng shui classics and some are quite famous too. 

Non-religious Non-spiritual feng shui recommendations

In today’s evolving environment feng shui principles need updating & adaptations.

Those days there were no 60 storey skyscrapers, rampant constructions, expressways, MRTs, escalators, elevators etc to speed up earth’s energy-cycle (地气 地运).

Kitchen and toilet were located outside the house. Today’s theories about kitchen & toilet are modern day versions so beware. Best thing is to ask the feng shui master for his rationale to do so.

In the past there are no internet, smartphone, computers, bluetooth, wifi. Today we are exposed to so much negative EMF. Life style and habits have change with tech toys. People walk blinding staring at their handphone instead of looking out for traffic. Natural habitat and wildlife balance were challenged by urban development thereby messing the climate.

What Bazi can’t do

Just like any studies, Bazi has it’s own limitations. For instance, bazi reading is unable to deal with “emotional relationships” it merely tells you issues and challenges but not the solution. The solution is within you or the other party concern.

Here are 11 basic feng shui buying tips to choose a lucky home. 

First of all, choose a “positive feng shui home 吉宅” where the destiny’s energies 宅命  of the house is align with the environment 环境.

地吉 苗旺，宅吉 人旺

Most are misinformed thinking that house feng shui is solely based on your bazi or gua number. Using a simple analogy. If your family migrate to America, you should adapt to the environment or the other way round?

2 major concerns to choose a positive home is Environment and Energy 峦头 和 理气.

This is by integrating various feng shui schools methods such as 形势, 三元, 玄空飞星, 八宅, 三合 etc.

One crucial factor is “timing” 

Authentic feng shui principles emphasize on the harmony between external & internal structure physical landforms’ (峦头) with house innate energy (理气)  “峦头为体，理气为用”.

The visible shape, material, size, height, distance … of physical environment all  matters. 

1. understand your home External environment 外峦头学 

空秘旨：不知来路，焉知入路，盘中八卦皆空。未识内堂，焉知外堂，局五行尽错

Start by understanding Singapore Master plan.

Study the external landforms using google satellite maps to check out roads, park, canal, sea etc.

It is important to study the external landforms because to a certain extent it is fixed unless it is earmarked for new development.

However understanding Singapore’s policy, perpetually there are on-going “construction” everyday which is feng shui worst nightmare. Once your neighbourhood construction commences it upsets Earth’s energy and  immediately has detrimental effect on your family’s health & wealth. 

Putting feng shui aside, think about the inconvenience of road diversion, the dust that you breathe…the detours you have to make

2. Analyse the internal environment 內形体学 of the house 

Study the shape of your house using the floor plan. Is it rectangle, square or out-of-shape?

Where is the main door located?  stove and beds locations ? Know at least the 8 main sectors of your home i.e. bagua

Any serious missing sectors (25% of the total floor size)? Do not choose a house that is out-of-shape or the length to breadth ratio is greater than 1:3. You will have uneven sizes per sector. If happened that the smaller sectors are positive ones like wealth, health, career than you are in trouble. See picture North and South sectors are relatively small.

3. Feng shui buying tip 4 – timing 

In San Yuan Chinese metaphysics 三元九运玄空下卦, timing is the key to good feng shui.

As a general rule of thumb in Period 8 2004 to 04 Feb 2024, overlooking “water” in the SouthWest direction improves wealth. See illustration. The opposite side which faces NE direction water is bad feng shui.

In Period 8 context, NE direction should overlook tall buildings instead of water. Structurally within the house, Northeast sector should not be the toilet or missing.

After 2024 in period 9 overlooking “North” direction water is good for wealth and the opposite is not.

“山环水抱，气聚有情， 山管人丁， 水管财”

4. Open space is a plus in feng shui   

Observe the space surrounding the block in relation to your neigbourhood. The physical terrain of the 4 main “mountain 山势” influence, front 朱雀, back 玄武, left hand side 左青龙 and the right 右白虎. If you have to compromise facing a spacious front is relatively more important. See picture Blk A is better than Blk B.

5. Avoid Bad Home Destiny 宅命 

Similar to our birth profile, houses also have their own destiny. “Destiny 宅命” of the house is determine by the orientation i.e. the “degree” of it’s facing.

6. NO tilted Main door

Do not buy a house or office with tilted doors. Some feng shui masters uses 玄空大卦 to tilt the door believing that the house “negative” energies  will improve permanently! It does not. Energies does not go sideways when you tilt the door. So if you see that the door is tilted it is clear sign telling you that the house is bad.

7. AVOID  bad external landforms 

Ensure that landforms such as sharp pointed buildings, reflective mirror-like windows, hospitals, police stations, T-junctions, expressways are not within your sight. We judge the intensity of negative influence based on distance to your house. If you need powerful binoculars to see the “troubled building” then there is little harm.

8. a house based on male breadwinner’s bazi is chauvinistic and redundant

Feng Shui dated many many years ago and during that time most theories are bias towards the “male breadwinner (封建思想 feudal society)”. So finding a house solely based on the male breadwinner is chauvinistic. Nowadays our female counterpart may even earn more money. Thus the basis to find a good feng shui house is not based on bazi lucky elements or gua number, unless you wanted to remain single or the entire family shared a single lucky element which is rare.

9. Feng shui taboo 风水大忌

Toilet and stove should not in the center of a house. Toilet in the center will cause digestion, intestine and urinary system issues.  As for the stove it causes heart & blood problems.

10. Feng shui taboo 风水大忌

Main door should not face kitchen nor toilet entrance. This will cause illnesses to the entire family. 

11. Avoid “空亡 void” feng shui degrees

These are the main door orientations to avoid. In chinese feng shui is call the 大空亡 meaning “void”. No Destinies. They are 大空亡 22.5°, 67.5°,112.5°,157.5°,202.5°, 247.5°, 292.5°, 337.5° and 小空亡  7.5 degree 37.5 degree 52.5degree 82.5 97.5 127.5 142.5 172.5 187.5 217.5 232.5 262.5 277.5 307.5 322.5 352.5

Any bad things can happen for such degree such as freak accidents, surgeries, sickness, suicide, lawsuit, disharmony, evil spirits and there is “no permanent feng shui solutions”.

Every house possess it’s own Natal Chart 宅命. me call it “Home Feng shui Destiny Chart” of the house. A Home Feng Shui Destiny is analogous to a Human Birth Chart (八字 bazi). Just like our birthdate, it is permanent and does not alter.

Just like birth chart we have our strengths and weaknesses. Through feng shui audit one is able to identify the positive, neutral and negative sectors of the house.

Home Destiny Natal chart is based on a precise degree of orientation 坐向 (sitting and facing) of the house and move in date. The birth chart-Destiny of the house is born when we shift in.

How to calculate Home Feng Shui Destiny  宅命

There are many formulas to determine Home Feng Shui Destiny.

Popular ones are  三元, 三合, 八宅, 紫白, 奇门 etc. Personally i integrate the strengths of each school but uses 三元玄空 as the “CPU” for it’s practicality, effectiveness & results. This formula is based “timing” of Earth’s energies which is relevant in today’s fast-paced life.

feng shui selection is not based on Gua Number 卦命 or Bazi 八字 alone 

Depending on which feng shui school, it is not a holistic approach using the head of household gua number 卦命 or bazi 八字 to choose a good feng shui house.

Gua Number originates from 八宅风水 consisting of only 2 groups – East & West Family. East family stay in East house direction/sector. East family has 4 positive sectors/directions to choose from i.e. North, South, East and SouthEast. For a West family is the balance sectors of choosing. This is a sweeping assumption with disregard for 三元宅命 home destiny’s energy and individual bazi useful elements. 

To make matter worse, the Gua Number grouping of East or West family is based on an individual Year of Birth. In a year there are about 130 million new born babies. Using this formula half of the world population belongs to the East group and the other half West group to choose a feng shui home is grossly over-generalization fallacy.

What if the family consist 2 East members and 2 West members? Then this family is homeless because the house that suits East members will not suit West.

An improved version is to use the individual Bazi useful element 八字用神 to choose a unit. This method is more refined & accurate because the probability is 1/1,123,200 of someone having the same bazi is so low. However this method only suit 1 single occupant and the house natal energy chart is not considered?

The correct method is first to find a good feng shui home DESTINY 宅命吉 based on the unit’s natal energy chart. A positive home destiny feng shui is suitable to everyone.

A Bad home destiny is like a ticking time bomb

A Bad Feng Shui Home Destiny is like a sick home.

You start off with a negative score and cannot afford any marks deducted.  More often than not most clients would asked “why can’t you cure a sick house?” but the more relevant question is “Why pay millions to buy a sick house & cure it?” Moreover feng shui remedies does not completely eradicate the sickness areas.

A sick home is like a “ticking time bomb” waiting to explode when meet with bad annual feng shui intervention !

Based on authentic feng shui principles there is no such thing as “key-collection” ceremony or any date-selection formulas for “initial door-opening” or “key-collection”.

董公择日 黄道黑道 the Chinese almanac (通胜 / 通书/ 老黄历) commonly used as the authority to seek auspicious dates & time for important events such as weddings, opening ceremony, renovation etc. The almanac even contain  trivials like “nail-clipping”. Wonder why there is no record for Key-collection Day or Open Door? 

Made in Singapore ritual  

Well you may insist that olden days China, there is no such occasion. In other words this event is a “modern creation” of today’s feng shui masters and interestingly only practise in Singapore! This odd ritual is not carry out by other longer history of feng shui countries such as China, Taiwan or Hongkong. 

Not recorded in the Chinese almanac 通 胜/历

You can thumb through till your fingers drop but there is no such event as 开门 open door or any similar associations, under the Chinese Almanac  suitability 宜 column see illustration.

Trivials like cutting of finger & toe nails are recorded even. If this event is so significant don’t you think it should be documented compare to cutting of finger or toe nails which happen on a monthly basis?

There are events such as house-moving term as 入宅 for new house and 移徙 for resale.  Other related events for house includes renovation修造, groundbreaking 动土 etc because it involves the calculation of feng shui sectors 九宫八卦.  

feng shui locus 风水太极点

Legit feng shui must fulfill 3 fundamentals. The trinity of 天 heaven , 地 environment 人human.  I Ching call it 三才. Without the human factor physically move into the house, there is no positive or negative feng shui energy 风水太极点 created. 

On the other hand, renovation and shift in dates are necessary because it involves feng shui sectors and directions 宅命形气 坐向. It requires the harmony of house “fengshui destiny energy” to match the occupants before moving in. 

Chinese “custom 旺五方 or 拜四角”

However there is a “Chinese custom or ritual” (not feng shui) passed down many generations call 旺五方 or 拜四角. This custom is use to rejuvenate energy for “resale” houses particularly those with bad past occurences. 

Personally me find this ritual more useful than the mere act of rolling pineapples and shouting “huat” on top of your voice!. It is also amusing  that “pineapple” is chosen because it “sounded” lucky 旺来 ? Feng shui practice is NOT “sounding” good!

No Significance

Choosing an auspicious date, technically the significance is when you “officially use or consume it” which is when you move in. If common sense prevail, we have not stayed in the house and therefore no feng shui influence. Imagine if you owned 10 houses, only the house that you reside influence your luck. 

Rationale, Relevance and Objective

Next we examine the relevance for such action. If you wanted peace of mind why not choose an auspicious date to “complete the sale” where you are officially the legal owner of the house. This is definitely appropriate and reasonable.

Why do we choose auspicious date & time

Back to the basic why do we need to choose an auspicious date, in the first place?

This is either to speed up certain enhancement to bring good fortune or to avoid doing something wrong that may have bad repercussions. For instance  we need to choose a good date to avoid the dangers of annual bad sectors such as “3 killings 三煞方, misfortune 5 五黄.  Just like wedding dates to avoid conflict with couples’ birth profile. 

Date selection for specific objectives

Date selection for specific objectives does bring meaningful outcomes particular using feng shui formulas from qi men dun jia 奇门遁甲 or xuan kong da gua 玄空大卦 or bazi principles.

It is definitely not screaming “huat”, roll pineapples, sprinkle tea leaves and your house will bring you good fortune
